Performance studies at Monash complement the Theatre major, integrating theoretical study of performance with hands-on instruction and exploration of acting, technical knowledge, devising and performing theatre.

Offered by the renowned Centre for Theatre and Performance, Performance provides exceptional opportunities to learn from theatre professionals, gain exposure to the world of Australian theatre, and rapidly develop your craft as a performer, director, stage manager or producer.

You'll also enjoy the benefits of the Centre's partnership with the Malthouse, one of Melbourne's leading venues for the theatrical arts.

With the fundamentals you'll have developed through your first-year sequence in Theatre (a prerequisite for entry to Performance), you'll be well placed to learn the crafts of acting, direction and overall production.

You'll perform on a weekly basis, putting into practice theories learnt both in this minor and in your Theatre major. The portfolios you'll produce aren't simply exercises in integrating theory and practice – they'll ultimately help you get started in the world of professional performance.

This focus on the practical, and on preparing you for the world of theatre beyond the university, is sustained through your later studies, during which you'll have the chance to produce and stage a major piece of work over the course of the semester.

Ultimately, you'll come away with rigorously honed skills that closely complement what you've learnt in Theatre. The craft, nous and contacts you'll develop, together with greater literacy and confidence in the world of theatre, will serve you throughout your career as a performance professional.
