Psychology Advanced - M5003
This course will increase students' understanding of theoretical and methodological aspects of research, develop their analytic, research and communication skills, and provide them with advanced knowledge in specific areas of the science and practice of psychology. In this course students must complete learning activities designed to expand their knowledge of statistics and the ethics of psychological research and practice, and broaden their understanding of the discipline. Students also undertake a supervised research project, which provides training in both discipline-specific and generic research skills.
The research project forms the basis of a literature review and research paper presented at the end of the course.
The course, which is accredited by the Australia Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC)*, is equivalent to a fourth year of a psychology sequence, thus providing eligibility to register as a Provisional Psychologist. This course gives students the qualification necessary to undertake further specialised professional postgraduate training in psychology, such as a Clinical Doctorate. This course also offers students eligibility to enter a two year internship program via the Psychology Board of Australia, which culminates in eligibility for general registration as a Psychologist.
*Accreditation is conditional until the first student graduates from the program. This is APAC procedure for new course offerings. There are no further conditions to the accreditation status and all students will graduate with an APAC-accredited psychology sequence, allowing progression toward professional training.
