Letters - 0202
The only degree of its kind available in Australia, the Bachelor of Letters will provide you with a unique opportunity to study another area in the humanities and social sciences.
Completed over two years (or equivalent part-time) you can choose from almost 40 different major and minor areas of study across the arts, humanities, and social sciences, including languages, social studies, communications, politics, human rights, and international relations. You will develop an informed, critical awareness of the field you're most passionate about, laying the groundwork for a wealth of exciting careers.
Being a second undergraduate degree the Bachelor of Letters allows you to explore areas perhaps touched on in your undergraduate degree but not studied in depth, or you may like to study a completely new area of humanities and social sciences.
You will complete at least one arts major plus additional electives chosen from any of the arts areas of study (which can be used to form a second major, one or two minors, or simply as free electives).
You will have the opportunity to specialise in an area of study relevant to your personal, professional or academic goals, and will be equipped further with the core skills employers in all sectors are looking for including:
- written and verbal communication skills
- teamwork skills
- listening and decision-making skills
- leadership and negotiation skills
- methods to build rapport and confidence
- critical-thinking skills
- problem-solving skills
- research skills
Engineers have undertaken studies in cultures and languages of countries with which they have trade relations, computer industry professionals have found studies in philosophy (particularly in logic) helpful, and secondary teachers have benefited from developing another teaching discipline. Or you may wish to use the Bachelor of Letters to pursue your own personal goals, or as a pathway through to further research at the graduate level.
