Business Specialist and Arts - B2012

Business Specialist and Arts

Bachelor degree/Bachelor degree

This double degree combination offers you genuine breadth of choice, with more than 40 majors and minors across the arts, humanities and social sciences available to complement your studies in business.

The Business Specialist component will give you strong broad business knowledge, while also building your expertise from day one in either Accounting, Banking and Finance or Marketing. The Arts component will give you the opportunity to explore your passion, or develop key skills in a complementary area.

This course leads to two separate degrees. Depending upon your business specialisation, you will be awarded either,

  • the Bachelor of Accounting, or
  • the Bachelor of Banking and Finance, or
  • the Bachelor of Marketing

and also

  • the Bachelor of Arts.

You will gain all the benefits of each degree course and be fully equipped to pursue a career in either field separately or to combine the two in your chosen work.

Choose to combine your Accounting specialisation with a Theatre Studies major to give you an edge in the film industry. Combine Banking and Finance with a language major to increase your international employment options and take up a role at an international bank. Complement your Marketing specialisation with Communications or Journalism to extend your skills across the media industry, or with Politics or Psychology to open up careers in government, or market research.

Wherever your choices may lead, a degree in Business and another in Arts will give you versatile and transferable skills that are relevant to any industry. The combination will also give you the skills that employers are looking for, such as communication, teamwork, research, critical thinking and cultural sensitivity - and you'll be able to draw on cross disciplinary perspectives to thrive in a broad range of settings.

Double degree courses allow you to study towards two different degrees at the same time, and graduate with two separate qualifications. And because a required subject in one course can count as an elective in the other, our double degrees take two years less than if you studied for the two degrees separately.

The Bachelor of Business Specialist is a specialist course that develops through the themes of foundation business knowledge, specialist discipline knowledge and capstone experience.

A. Foundation business knowledge

This will provide you with a study of accounting, economics and econometrics disciplines and the impact they have on decision making in organisations.

B. Specialist discipline knowledge

These studies will develop your capacity as a critical and creative professional who is able to apply your knowledge of your specialism to provide discipline based solutions for business. Units contained within the discipline specialisation may meet the requirements for professional accreditation bodies.

C. Capstone experience

The capstone unit will consolidate your knowledge and skills acquired through the study of your specialisation and provide experience in multi-disciplinary processes and decision making.

The Bachelor of Arts is a comprehensive course, structured in three equal parts. In the double degree course you complete:

A. Arts specified study

This will expose you to several Arts disciplines areas of study contributing breadth to your knowledge of the arts, humanities and social sciences. It will also give you the opportunity to learn about several areas of study before finalising your choice of major and minor.

B. Arts listed major

This will provide you with a focused program of study that will develop your practical and theoretical skills and knowledge in one Faculty of Arts listed major area of study. You will learn to critically analyse, apply and communicate an advanced level of understanding of the concepts and theoretical frameworks that constitute the knowledge base of the area of study.
